Update Guide
Starting with Yocto OS version 0.0.5, updates can be performed from Buildroot to Yocto and from Yocto to Yocto.
This allows for users who upgraded their Buildroot system to an older version of Yocto to still have easy access to the latest changes. Note that newer versions will install correctly on top of any older versions, regardless of whether the older version was capable of Yocto-to-Yocto updates.
No additional steps are required for Yocto-to-Yocto updates. Simply flash the image to your USB and the scripts in the app and image will do the rest.
Install Latest Yocto OS Updater
Section titled “Install Latest Yocto OS Updater”The commands for starting the update to the new Yocto OS are contained in a special package that can be installed from the app like a regular software update. This makes the process much more familiar for the user.
This half of the process generally follows the normal procedure for updating to a new software version.

- Turn the display back on. The screen will be black. This is expected and normal.
- The update process takes a few minutes to complete.
- Wait for the display’s buzzer to start beeping. This is the signal that the update is finished.
- If you hear the lower-pitched tone, the update was a success! Power cycle the display again to begin normal operations.
- If you hear the high-pitched tone, you may have to troubleshoot.
